I still maintain my disdain for the cooler. However I do recognize that I am just being difficult.

Yes, you are! If you’re going camping for a weekend, or will have access to ice supplies along a trip, coolers are a good alternative.

The major disadvantage is what you mentioned: ice. I especially dislike how it makes everything wet. I put my food in resealable plastic containers when using a cooler, when at all possible.

The last time I trusted a cooler was on the kokopelli trip and despite carefull packing, putting it out of the way of heat sources and using copious ice, it ruined my bacon after 48 hours...never again.
